Dear Sam…

Where have I been?, 2 Assessments down & Its nearly Christmas!

Well! the past few weeks since the prosthetics event has been absolutely manic!, to the point where I decided not to blog until I had got my life together and had got through the last few weeks of uni for this semester!…

Basically, I finally finished those dreads and added them on to the bald cap for my assessment with Tina, we then had the assessment, which I wasn’t to happy with the end result, but Lauren was wonderful and an absolute trooper for me standing there bless her, semi naked for a full body paint. She ended up looking more like an avatar than an alien in the end lol.

For 2 of the weeks I didn’t got in as I had so much I could do at home I decided to just crack on with it 😀 stitching hair to tights, finishing presentations and essays and also trying to figure this dread situation out lol

Sam’s hair assessment has been driving me mad ever since I had finished the moustache one! Turns out it worked way better than I thought 😀 RESULT! and my model was great 😀 even having all the extra hair and structures added to her own hair!

these are just some behind the scene shots as I haven’t had a chance to edit them yet…

apart from all that not a lot has been going on :), we did however get our timetable for next semester in January 😀 we still have Sam, Anna May and Gary 🙂 but for sfx we have Lesley! Lesley has been on our course before and now has become a tutor :D…. I’m looking forward to having a new tutor and learning new things :P.

Christmas is literally 5 days away, and your home tomorrow 😀 I’m looking forward to having a catch up and a laugh over the Christmas period.

Now all I have to do is finish off all the last bits and submit on the 9th of Jan… and then another 2 weeks off 😀 Hallelujah!

Anyway speak soon

Dear Sam…

Dear Sam …

The week of Hair with Sam, Neil Gorton’s Prosthetic event & Trying to get hold of the taxi man!

Monday 14th November

Today in Tina’s class, I went to get my mould out of the locker to find that the white silicone I had poured onto it last week, had only covered 3/4 of my mould 😦 I had the hard decision to actually do the mould properly and add more white silicone to it, or to used the silicone we have in our kits which takes about 20 mins to set instead of 6 hours! I chose to do the 6 hour one as it will last longer in the long run, and I know I wont have problems when it comes to actually creating my prosthetic! So that meant that I had to sit around all lesson as I didn’t bring any other work  as I was supposed to be cracking on with that… Fuming! I Did help Sanita sort her mould out as hers didn’t set as we think she didn’t put enough catalyst in to help the silicone “go off”. We spent about 20 mins trying to scoop it all out and salvage her sculpt underneath.

Tuesday 15th November

Sam told us last week we could come in at 9:30 this week, which meant I had an extra hour in bed, but also meant that we would be stuck in all the morning rush hour that seemed to have appeared…. we had actually forgotten how annoying it was going at 7:30 lol…. Once we got to Burnage I tried to ring the taxi service and it took me 27 attempts to get through to them 😦 how annoying!15095724_10153733140781362_353289017399804879_n

In Sam’s class today, she had set up little stations around the room, involving hair and tasks we had to complete to move onto the next one. We had so much fun!… The first one we had to finish off adding hair to this corset that had already been made. We had to add a piece to it ready for the next group to then add onto that. We came up with making wings to add to the corset :D… the next station was making round shapes with hair, and also making a tree decoration out of hair for our Christmas tree that will be in reception 😀 We came up with a little snowman, to go along with Sophie’s little reindeer that she had made lol , we also got to learn how to do a basket braid type thing and make jewellery out of hair…. Can I just mention there was a lot of hair hanging around and being glued to everything haha.

Saturday 19th November

Today was the day we got to travel to Birmingham for the Prosthetics Event that Neil Gorton was hosting 😀 we had the chance to sit in seminars where special effects makeup artists were doing talks and demonstrations, we also got tot see the body art show that was being held and have a look around the stalls who were selling lots of sfx makeup things, so I actually got to see Neil Gorton who is amazing at his work and it was so interesting…. on the not so fun side, it was a very long day, the night before we stayed at Laurens which was funny, but it meant we had to get up at 5:15am just to get to uni on time…. abit like Harry Potter in March aha.

Safe to say I couldn’t wait to get home in the end and crawl into my bed as I was shattered… 10pm I got home 😦

Dear Sam …

Dear Sam…

The week where I finally put silicone on my mould, and I became a ring master for the morning

Monday 7th November

I tell you now, It is absolutely Baltic at the minute in the mornings, like ice cold and I hate it 😦 especially when your tired and rather be in bed lol… This morning in Tina’s class it was time to start building the walls around my mould ready to pour the silicone in to create the negative ready to make the actual prosthetic… We use WED clay which is wet and then dries hard. You have to create key holes and stuff so when you remove it, it doesn’t cause a suction which means it could get stuck lol.

This is basically what it looks like, I didn’t get a picture of the actual silicone in the mould, so iv dug out my one from last year 🙂 944884_10153184853671362_3201754375634003905_nThis was the one for the deer looking one I did 😀

The process takes about 6 hours to cure, so next week ill be able to go in and pull it apart and have my negative… this brings me on to deciding we were going home at 12 🙂 we had nothing else to do, plus as per usual no Gary this week lol… I think he’s given up on us lot haha.

Tuesday 8th November

Today, I was being a model for Ashleigh for her moustache assessment, we had a arranged a few weeks ago that id help her out and model her wonderful moustache :D, her idea was a ring master with big pom pom looking hair, and this moustache, with full outfit! I even got to play around with a whip!! lol…. she started off adding in the extra hair and curling them, then apply the moustache! MY GOD is it super itchy… I don’t know how actors and stuff can go a full day of filming with that attached to their face! I could only have it on for about and hour and a half… it was horrible lol. Anyway she then applied my makeup and it was time to get dressed and head to the studio!… Sophie was also modelling for Katie and she was a pirate, we had a few photos taken together as we looked great!

After Sam’s class me and Leah decided we were super tired and didn’t have the brain space or patience to head to Anna Mays class, so we headed home 😀 so that was 2 days where we finished at lunch time (Head in hands)

This week I had ago at painting bubbles… this is for Tina’s assessment, I watched loads of YouTube videos and then had ago myself…There green as the bubbles for my assessment will be green, I also found that the green worked better than the black and white 😀

Dear Sam…

Dear Sam….

The week I came to visit, Halloween happened & the first assessment of the year!

Over half term I came to visit you in London & had a fab time! We went to Camden, Stratford & also China town 🙂 it was nice to have some time away and a break from everything 🙂

Saturday 29th October

Halloween weekend has begun and boy have a got a few makeups to do for it! The first being a friend called Charlotte who I know from work, she wanted the half skull face which looked awesome once I had finished. Next up was Ben & his friends who all wanted different looks for an event going on in town, they all looked fab aswell. After I had finished up there it was on to a local nightclub to do makeup for all the staff ready for a Halloween event. They basically got to be whatever they wanted.

Monday 31st October

Today university was shut, not sure why but that meant we didn’t need to go in, I spent the day sorting some uni work out and getting my kit all cleaned up ready for the evening. I was back at the nightclub that I was at Saturday night ready for the Purge themed party they were having. This time I took mum along for the added help. Although it was purge night, it was really hard to create that “purge mask” look and we attempted it about 4 times but it just wasn’t happening! They all ended up with the white faces and crosses on their foreheads. (I am determined to get that look right!) Me and mum are going to have a practice of it at home on ourselves to get it right!

Tuesday 1st November

November has begun which means not long until Christmas now 😀 I was super duper tired this morning as I didn’t finish until late last night. It was so cold at 6am aswell! Today in Sam’s class was our first assessment of the year! The one that we had been building up to with these moustaches. My model arrived and I sat him down ready to begin! I was a little un organised and had a few hiccups along the way. However it all came together in the end 🙂 The final look turned out great and now I’m ready to photoshop them and have them ready for submission date in January 😀

Anna-May this week had something she had to go do, so we didn’t have to go to her lesson this week 😀 which meant I got to go home early which was great for me as I felt like death 😀

Roll on home time!
